KVM: Yield poor in the network of the virtual machines
Finally we decide and we already have the updated house servant!! The hardware that runs at present is:
- CPU: AMD Phenom (tm) 8450 Triple-Core Processor
- RAM: 4 x 1GiB Kingston DDR2 800MHz
- HD: 2 x 200GiB Digital Western
- Mobo: Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H
We might have started the system that we had installed since the previous processor also belonged to the family x86_64 but we decide to realize a new installation since we wanted to mount servants virtualizados as what the system with the hypervisor, in this case KVM, does not need to have everything what had the ancient servant.

Do we return to the attack with the granduyón, in the last post we remain just to begin the installation, have the CD truth? since forward!
As soon as the portable one was started, we will have ahead a bare commands line … the first thing that we must do is to form the network, if it is that we do not have clear DHCP in our network. If our network has automatic directions allocation, as in my case, we will not have to worry about anything since netplugd he will take charge of everything. If we have no DHCP, we will have to form the network using the assistant or to hand, as let's want: Si no tenemos DHCP, deberemos configurar la red usando el asistente o bien a mano, como queramos:
livecd ~ # net-setup eth0
Being still the assistant we will have the network formed concerning a few seconds.
Particionando the disc …
To work with the disc we will use cfdisk, we are going to create two divisions, the first one will be of 512MiB for / boot and the following one of approximately 120 – 130GiB that it will serve to us to create a VG. We will leave some free GiBs to lodge the swap out of RAIDs and LVMs: why? everything patience will come.;) todo llegará paciencia….;)

Is it already time to take this M$ Vista from us of above, that we are going to install? Gentoo! And because? you can ask that … well it is with the distro which more comfortable I meet. I realize that portage since implementation is not the best of the world, for example, it might be more rapid … but good inside the imperfection that we might find in any software as our needs, Gentoo for me is perfect
What is the idea?
Making use of two discs of the HP Pavilion dv9890es let's mount the system with the discs in RAID-1 (mirror, mirror …) thus we will have all the resulted information and in case of casque of 1 disc ….estaremos brans! But do I remember that to have the discs in RAID-1 is not a stand-in of the safety copies OK? As the yankees would say, shit happens or what comes to be … (from slightly more polite form) everything can go on since a RAID-1 does not protect us from human mistakes, I even remember that time mounting a RAID-1 for software that I was wrong of division and remained without / home that precisely wanted to answer!
To part of the RAID-1 we will mount LVM, which will allow us to manage the space of our divisions of a more comfortable form in case that we lack in some place.
How do we start?
The first thing that we are going to do is to lower an iso minibadly of gentoo for amd64, if I do not remember badly Gentoo a stable iso does not publish from 2008.0-r1 so we will look for a mirror with autobuilds, that are not any more than iso done of a form automatic and published to have anything more recent than the official version.
The advantages of these autobuilds are basically that quite what they take it is much newer, what I was walking looking is to have a recent kernel during the installation and not to find me with problems of absence of drivers of network, SATA, etc …

Good like late Christmases gift me a portable one has fallen down, that the ancient one was already needing a plan I renewed later more than three years.
Like lately my needs have changed this time I have looked for something that allows me to work comfortably at home but that simultaneously could move it (although the back means to destroy me a little
), he was looking for something of 17 ″ with a good resolution, enough memory and a CPU that me lasts at least so much or more than that of my ASUS W5A. Finally the product that for price and for characteristics better was fitting to my needs was a HP Pavilion dv9080es that a Core 2 Duo wears to 2.4GHz, with 3GiB of RAM, 2 discs SATA of 160GiB, NVIDIA Geforce 8600M GS, Reader of Blue Ray, screen widescreen of 17 ″ with resolution of 1440×900 and typical trifles of a portable one nowadays how webcam, bluetooth, etc …
The truth is that for the time being I am very satisfied with the buy and with the seller, I have acquired it across eBay, specifically of the shop that there has HP where 0 sells products KM as they call them they, that there are only products that went out with some defect and after conditioning them for its sale, they cannot sell them as new … but they sell them with a year of guarantee and saving yourself a few pelillas
It seems that Vodafone is a little saturated by the high ones of ADSL and for it we go waiting almost 1 month and we still have not even the router …
Fortunately, a few months ago we hire a Movistar flat rate for my HTC TyTN (aka HTC Hermes) and till now we have been using it with me portable connected for bluetooth. I have to say that there is sorrow of which the speed is not anything of another world … it allows me to sail without problems and it is turning out to be stabler than he had never waited.
Finally I have got tired of waiting and have prepared two of my cacharritos (Linksys WRT54GS and Soekris net4801) so that they give connectividad WiFi and to Internet across the Hermes.
And this is what we want to explain in a series of posts, step by step, beginning for the connection between a PC (me portable) Internet across a device with Windows Mobile 6.1 (my HTC Hermes).

Very well, first I will tell a little that it means cross to compile, it is the fact of compiling a certain code source for another architecture different from that we are working. Namely most of users of computers we have architecture x86 or x86_64, but we might need to generate binary (feasible / bookstores) for other architectures nowadays quite common like ARM, MIPS, etc.
Due to the fever of nowadays of having Linux in any device, the need of cross has grown to compile. Normally when someone tries cross to compile it is easy to find a game of hardware prepared for the architecture destination, but this implies having binary installed in the system without any control … and: what does Gentoo offer to settle this? Crossdev. ¿qué ofrece Gentoo para solventar esto? Crossdev.
Gentoo: Installing cherokee
Lately we have been having some problems with our webs, so soon they were working as not … the true thing is that we were taking enough time with this.
After several tests with the parameters of configuration of the module of php/etc/php/apache2-php5/php.ini we were still equal, had retouched the maximum time of execution of every script, also the quantity of memory that PHP could use, etc.
The truth is that it was already a little spotted, this morning I have decided that of today it could not happen … it it had to settle or at least to find an alternative that allows me to keep on working without problems.
After keeping on investigating a little the problem, I have found a few a little worrying errors in/var/log/apache2/error_log that were saying:
child pid 22096 exit signal Segmentation fault (11)
Recovered: Using dm-crypt with Gentoo
dm-crypt basically it is an encriptador of divisions that can serve to us to protect our information p.e. in ours / home.
After having used during a time cgd, I chose to throw a glance to EncFS but it was lacking functionalities that I believe necessary to maintain my safe information. Finally and after checking the available options, I have begun using dm-crypt.
To start we have to install sys-fs/cryptsetup:
it emerges-Dv cryptsetup
On the other hand, if we use our own kernel we will have to give him the support necessary for the encriptación algorithms and device-mapper. If on the other hand we use sys-kernel/genkernel probably we already will have the necessary support.
Now I will describe the steps to prepare the division encriptada:
- We create the division:
- We verify if it has worked:
- The moment to give format:
- Finally we prove it:
- We form the starter parameters:
- to add to/etc/conf.d/cryptfs the lines mount ='home’ and source = '/dev/sdX’
# cryptsetup - and believe home/dev/sdX
# dmsetup ls it should list home
# mkreiserfs/dev/mapper/home
# mount/dev/mapper/home/home
to add to / etc / fstab the line/dev/mapper/home/home
reiserfs noatime, nodev, nosuid 0 1
Remember the password asked for cryptsetup when we create the division since it will be asked us whenever we should start.

Does the slow of the updates tire you??
If we bear in mind that with Gentoo, Sabayon, etc … it is necessary to do it with enough frequency, it is better that we have to hand useful things and that they facilitate the life to us. And of one of these things it is about what today I want to speak to you.
I have discovered a console tool in Sabayon, or as Alpha Development likes calling it some repository manager, it is equo.
For that you should not be used to this lenguage, Alpha indicates that it is "peligrosillo" since it is less stable than the Beta (already of for himself the last one means that it is “in tests” and has not just been an insurance to 100 %) so it can fail, or it is possible that not …
it is not known, here it already brings in the level of risk that each one wants to assume
If you are of those who prefer the graphic environment an equo it has its equivalent: Spiritz.
Equo neither compiles, nor is missing that it does!!!
It unloads binary bundles and once it has all of them, installs them.
As for its use it is quite simple, it is possible to sum up in the following orders (always with superuser's permissions):
#equo update
#equo world
#equo conf update
and always to remember that if the proper equo warns us that there exists an update of him itself (like tool in itself) we will have to do:
#equo install equo
Those that you it should throw yourselves to use, I hope that you should leave here your experiences.
A greeting!!!!!
!!
gentoo: eclean
Today I want to speak about a tool of slightly well-known but very useful gentoo. eclean
Essentially this tool one of the things that it does is to erase the sources of the bundles that we install some time ago and that now we have another more recent installed version and, therefore, the system is already not going to use them, this way we liberate space on disc of a sure and clean form.
These bundles are in/usr/portage/distfiles.
eclean it saves us to do rm-rf/usr/portage/distfiles/* and as earlier we were saying that the use of eclean is much surer.
Finally, only we have to do like root
#eclean distfiles
And be already!!!
I hope that it you should be useful and up to the next post!!!!!!!
